To Traffic Exchange, or not?

It’s a valid question. We’ve all heard of “manual surf” traffic exchanges, but what do they actually do - and are they useful? The answer is, they can be useful in certain situations.

Manual surfing memberships are generally free. You surf a certain number of sites per day, and in return other surfers visit your sites. Of course, these surfers aren’t really interested in buying a product (they’re trying to sell one just like you are for heaven’s sake!) but you can still make use of this “straw” traffic and spin it into gold.

One way to do this is by promoting another traffic exchange, then “distilling” these hits into a single account where you promote a product which is of interest to affiliate marketers. For example you might want to promote RSS scrapers for a blogging network, or perhaps statistic tracking tool for a variety of affiliate programs.

Another thing that might be useful is to load an Alexa redirect to your site as the “target” url - thus improving your Alexa rankings. Finally you might consider promoting a blog with topics that are of interest to affiliate marketers (*cough*) because once they see your content, they may bookmark you and return to see what else you have to offer later!

So far I have found three traffic exchange sites I liked:

Each of them is cheat free and relatively clean (in fact they are all managed by the same company), but as always be sure that you have a good virus scan software and firewall enabled. It’s just common sense! Got a traffic exchange you like? Drop me a comment with your link and I may sign up under you!
